Wildwood school sold

Wildwood Elementary school on the city’s south side will soon have a new owner.

During a meeting Monday night the Ottumwa Board of Education approved a recommendation to sell the school to Frantz Community Investors located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  Again Monday evening the public was given an opportunity to speak for or against the sale.

Among those speaking at Monday night’s meeting was Wapello County Supervisor Jerry Parker who expressed concerns over the future of the Frank Huston softball field.

Frantz Community Investors plans to convert the school house,  that’s listed on The National Register of Historic Places, into 16 apartments.  Future plans also call for the investment firm to build onto the school house creating additional apartments.

The recommendation approved by the Board of Education does not include the sale of Frank Huston Field.  At an earlier meeting in Ottumwa, Tom Frantz, President of Frantz Investments, said if the softball field was ever sold, it would be at least ten years before anything is done to the field.
