Sylvanis Leo “Van” Weeks, 84, of Ottumwa, died at 8:55 p.m. January 4, 2022 at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center.
He was born January 7, 1937 in Ollie to Amos and Rosie Hisler Weeks. He married Janice K. Stephenson August 31, 1957 and she preceded him in death August 24, 2012.
Van was superintendent for McAninch Corporation for many years until retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local Union No. 234.
Van loved fishing, hunting, card games, especially cribbage, and watching NASCAR. He loved spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are his daughters, Pamela (Mark) Pannell of Peyton, CO and Ann Krueger of Cedar Rapids; son-in-law, Pete Adams; 9 grandchildren, Aaron Pannell, Lisa Lenn, Jason Krueger, Bryce Krueger, John Daniels, Jennifer Daniels, Jerry Adams, Jessica Heisdorffer and Jon Vozenilek; 16 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great child; and siblings, Emelia Weltch (Harold Liles) of Eldon, Shirley (Ed) Liles of Floris, Frank Weeks of Eldon, Amos (Pat) Weeks Jr. of Ottumwa, Willa (Dan) Cloke of Eldon and Susie (Jason) Bonner of Floris.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Vanessa Wenzel and Kathy Adams; siblings, Lundy Weeks, Evelyn Weeks and Ernest Weeks; and sons—in-law, Wayne Krueger and Mike Vozenilek.
Visitation will be open at 11 a.m. Friday, January 7th at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.
Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday, January 8th at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Smith officiating. For those unable to attend the service, it may be viewed live on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. Cremation will follow the service. Inurnment at Shaul Cemetery will take place at a later date.
