Two Men Arrested After Altercation, Gunfire

An altercation between two Ottumwa men ended with the pair in jail facing charges.

According to court records, 32-year-old Ryan Rupe (left in image) and 36-year-old Caleb Brewer (right) were involved in a verbal quarrel on Saturday morning. While Brewer was sitting in his vehicle, Rupe allegedly punched Brewer multiple times through an open window.

During the same altercation, Brewer allegedly brandished a handgun and fired multiple rounds. No one was hit by the gunfire. When Ottumwa police officers responded to the scene (the 300 block of E. Park Avenue), Brewer admitted to firing the gun, court documents say. Both Rupe and Brewer were arrested.

Rupe was charged with first-degree burglary. He is currently in the Wapello County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

Brewer faces a charge of felon in possession of a firearm. He is currently free after posting a $5,000 bond.
