According to reports from both the Des Moines Register and CycloneFanatic.com, one of the state’s top football recruits has chosen to play college football for Iowa State. Cedar Rapids Prairie offensive lineman Bryce Meeker gave his verbal commitment to the Cyclones on Monday, just one day after taking part in ISU’s annual football camp.
Meeker, a 6-foot-4, 290-pound senior for Prairie High this fall, is listed as the state’s top-ranked recruit by Rivals.com. Meeker cannot officially sign with Iowa State until National Signing Day in February, but if he keeps his commitment, he would become the third top-ranked, in-state recruit in a row to choose the Cyclones. Highly touted Urbandale wide receiver Allen Lazard signed with ISU last February and will be a freshman this fall, while former West Des Moines Valley O-lineman Jake Campos picked Iowa State in 2013 and will be a redshirt freshman in the coming season.
Iowa State and Northern Illinois appear to be Meeker’s only FBS offers to date. Northern Iowa is among several FCS schools that have offered him a scholarship.
