Steven Ray Stainer, 66, of Ottumwa died at 6:19 a.m. November 26, 2021 at home.
He was born March 23, 1955 in Ottumwa to Raymond and Jo Cox Stainer. He married Lorie Dusing on May 17, 2014.
A 1973 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Steven had worked in construction for various companies, retiring in 1998.
He loved music and played with a variety of bands around Southeast Iowa, notably the Volt Rush Band and Garrison Rock. He enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with friends and family.
Surviving is his wife, Lorie; two step children, Chad (Samantha) Francis of Ottumwa, Heidi (Robert) Prose of Waverly; two step grandchildren, Austin (Mikeala) Prose of Center Point, Amy Prose of Waterloo; two step great grandchildren, Jacob and Addyson Prose; a sister, Nancy (Scott) Gudbaur of Urbandale; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his soul brother, Volt Morris.
Visitation will begin 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 30, at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 1, at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. For those unable to attend, the service may be watched live on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook Page.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice serving Davis and Wapello Counties or Heartland Humane Society.
