OTTUMWA — The second Iowa Farm Bureau STEM Career Conference for 2014-15 will be held on the Indian Hills Community College Ottumwa campus on Monday, Mar. 2.  Over 70 STEM teachers, administrators and school counselors will attend the event which runs from 8:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

The Iowa Farm Bureau, the University of Northern Iowa and participating community colleges, including Indian Hills, are providing these conferences across the state.  STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and math.  The goals of the conferences are to help educators become more aware of STEM careers and encourage more students to get interested in STEM coursework and programs leading to great careers.

The agenda for the day reflects the focus on STEM.  Break-out sessions will be held on agricultural literacy and ACT’s involvement will provide information on the new STEM score added to the ACT college entrance exam.

A mini career fair of over 25 exhibitors from STEM fields will provide information and networking.  A business and industry panel from the area will share insights about employee qualities needed for success in STEM fields.  A student/alumni panel will follow which will give educators feedback on preparation for future careers.
