Special Olympics Iowa to hold Virtual Summer Games

GRIMES, IA – Although the 2020 Summer Special Olympics Games at Iowa State University has been canceled due to COVID-19, the spirit of Special Olympics and Summer Games carries on in homes and communities throughout the state.

This year, Special Olympics Iowa will hold a Virtual Summer Games on May 21! This event is open to everyone from athletes, coaches, fans, and Unified partners, and will provide a safe way for athletes to compete against their peers from across the state. Athletes are encouraged to review the events list online at www.soiowa.org, practice the events they wish to compete in, and then submit a video of their best times and/or scores for all the events by May 17.

Once you’ve practiced, competed and submitted your results, join the Special Olympics Iowa community from across the state to celebrate! All athletes, Unified partners, coaches, family members, volunteers and fans are invited to come together virtually to celebrate everyone’s successes in a Virtual Summer Games video. Hear encouraging messages from some familiar faces and see highlights from the virtual season! Tune in to this celebration on Thursday, May 21, at 7 p.m.
