Sex Offender Arrested for Living Too Close to School


A man was arrested on the south side of Ottumwa after authorities determined he was living too close to a school, violating the terms of his sex offender registry status.

According to the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office, on Sunday, September 26th, deputies conducted a compliance check on 20-year-old Skyler Alex Lynch who was registered at 345 North Ferry Street.

The sheriff’s office determined that Lynch’s registered residence was 584 feet from Evans Middle School. Lynch is not allowed to reside within 2,000 feet of a school or child care facility.

Lynch was arrested and charged with failure to comply with sex offender registry, first offense. He was transported to the Wapello County Jail on Sunday and was freed on Tuesday after posting bond.

In 2017, Lynch was charged with three counts of second-degree sexual abuse and two counts of lascivious acts with a child in Polk County. According to the sex offender registry, the victim was a boy under 13 years of age.

Court records say Lynch pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree sexual abuse. The other four charges were dismissed.
