Pamela Rae Bean, 72, of West Des Moines, IA passed away at 4:27 p.m. on Tuesday November 30, 2021 at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center in Des Moines, IA.

Born on December 1, 1948, in Ottumwa, Pam was the daughter of Charles Edgar Leonard Jr. and Deleth Berrier Leonard.
On May 29, 1970, she was united in marriage to Michael James Bean in Lancaster, MO.

Pam worked as a Print Finisher for Colormaster and Lee’s photography for many years and was very talented with a paintbrush and color palette. She took great pride in her work and touched up countless photos during her tenure.

Pam was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was musically gifted and played the piano and organ throughout her life and filled her home with beautiful music. She played for occasions of all kinds and was a well-known musician in Ottumwa. She loved to sing and enjoyed being a member of the Sweet Adelines chorus. She made many friends through her career, her church, and her music and she loved spending time with them and chatting on the phone.
Above all, family meant everything to Pam. She loved her family. Her animals were very much part of the family and she loved them dearly and spoiled each one of them just like her kids. Whether it was trips to Disney World, or traveling out west on the Amtrak, or getting together for the holidays, she loved spending time with her family. She always enjoyed cooking huge, elaborate dinners, and her baked goods were second to none. She was our family matriarch and our rock. She was a voice of wisdom, our teacher, our guide, and she will be dearly missed by all.

Pam is survived by her children, Kim Tarkowski of Montana, Todd (Katie) Burtis of Clarkston, WA, Misty Higginson of Glendive, MT, Jason Burtis of West Des Moines, Brent (Suzie) Bean of West Des Moines, Stacy (Gary) Sanchez of Scottsdale, AZ, and Chad (Tammie Cheney) Bean of Cedar Rapids; 28 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Danny (Connie) Leonard of Omaha, NE and Brian Leonard of Ottumwa; and a sister, Melinda (Bob) Fisher of Lakeland, FL.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Bean, her parents, her brother Dave Morse, and her grandson, Jacob Sanchez.

Visitation will be open at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 9th, at Reece Funeral Home. The family will be present to greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, December 10th, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. For those unable to attend, the service may be viewed live on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to Heartland Humane Society.
