OWI arrests


(Ottumwa)—  Statistics from the Ottumwa Police Department shows 118  persons were arrested in Ottumwa last year for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

The average age of the drivers arrested for owi was 32.  81-percent of the drivers were males, while 18-percent of the drivers were females.

Statistics also show the average blood alcohol content of the drunk drivers was .154.  As of July of 2003, a person with a blood alcohol content of .08 or above is considered legally intoxicated in Iowa.

34 persons refused to provide a breathe sample in order to determine the level of alcohol in their system.  Failure to provide a sample for testing results in a person having their drivers license revoked for a minimum of one year.

And in 2013 five percent of accidents were alcohol related in the city.
