Ottumwa’s Salvation Army Blows Past Goal

Thanks to the generosity of the community, the Envoy of Ottumwa’s Salvation Army says the non-profit was able to push past the goal for its Red Kettle Campaign.

Joel Arthur says the target for the campaign was $50,000 but over $7,000 was donated on the campaign’s last day (December 24th) to make the final total $57,210.16. Arthur was pleased with how the community exceeded expectations.

“The generosity of our community is unbelievable,” Arthur remarked. “It’s amazing folks that want to see our community do good things. and by this generosity of exceeding our goal we’re able to Provide services to those that need help.”

Some of the services the Salvation Army provides include helping community members with utilities and rent.

Arthur says while the Red Kettle Campaign gets a lot of attention, the Salvation Army welcomes donations any time of the year.

“It’s not only at Christmastime do we find people needing that assistance but people need assistance during march, april, during the hot summers of the year: June, July, August.”
