Ottumwa Symphony to hold “25 Men Who Can Cook”


OTTUMWA — Billed as the “tastiest 2-hours in Ottumwa”, the 25 Men Who Can Cook event, sponsored by the Ottumwa Symphony Orchestra, will return to Bridge View Center in Ottumwa on Saturday, Jan. 24. Doors will open for this popular event at 11:00 a.m. and the tasting will continue until 1:00 p.m.

This year’s chefs include: Carey Bostian (OSO Conductor), Ron Graeff (physician), Sam Garchik (Ottumwa High School), Brandon Holstrom (American Red Cross), Jeremy Weller (McCune & Reed), Kevin Hatfield (U.S. Foods), Greg Kenning (Wapello County Supervisor), Mike Buchanan (Ottumwa Radio), Matt Thompson (Indian Hills), Jeff Leonard (Al-Jon), Larry Basar (Cargill Meat Solutions), Dan Canny (Save Ottumwa), Fletcher Person (Hindman-Person), Tim Schwartz (Hotel Ottumwa), Kelly Scott (Ottumwa High School), Bob Wilkerson (retired), Benjamin Wright (Tenco), Edwin Brand (KMGO Radio), Hans Wilz (Edd the Florist), Bill Reece (Reece Funeral Home), Don Crosby (John Deere Ottumwa Works), Josh Reynolds (Ottumwa Fire Department), Tim Stabile (O’Toole’s Pizzeira) and David Howard (Ottumwa Regional Health Center).

Advance tickets are $12.50 and are available at The Little Bake Shop in Ottumwa and from the 25 chefs. Tickets purchased at the door the day of the event will be $15; children under the age of 10 who are accompanied by an adult will be admitted free. The backside of each ticket entitles the bearer to free admission to the Ottumwa Symphony Orchestra Winter or Spring Concert (a $14 value).

Attendees will be able to cast a vote for their favorite chef, and 2014 People’s Choice Winner Fletcher Person will be returning to defend his title. A team of judges, coordinated by Chef Gordon Radar of Indian Hills Community College, will be selecting winning chefs in the categories of Pre-Dining, Entrée and Dessert.

25 Men Who Can Cook has proven to attract a wide audience in its first three years – with last year’s attendance growing to 500 enjoying culinary delights in a fun atmosphere.
