A record-setting amount of rain fell on Ottumwa Thursday night.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Des Moines, the City of Bridges saw a whopping 4.43 inches of rain. That number easily dwarfs the daily record of rain that was set in 1945 (1.90 inches).
Rainfall recorded at the Ottumwa Regional Airport exceeded three inches during the 7:00 hour alone. NWS says Thursday night’s rainfall also ties the monthly rainfall record from 1993.
After a much drier Friday, the weekend forecast calls for more rain. Most of the rain is expected to fall on Saturday, with showers and possible thunderstorms starting in the afternoon and going well into the evening. Sunday’s forecast contains a chance of showers for most of the day with the skies being mostly cloudy.
