An Ottumwa man is accused of speeding through a construction zone, damaging equipment, and nearly hitting workers last week.
34-year-old Jeese Clawson faces charges of first-degree criminal mischief, a Class C felony, and driving while barred, an aggravated misdemeanor.
Court records say at 11:12 PM on Wednesday, September 16th, Clawson was driving 64 mph in a 55 mph zone and traveled through a construction zone on 163rd Street while trying to elude law enforcement.
Clawson, who was driving a Chevy Tahoe, allegedly destroyed fresh concrete, hit a construction vehicle, and destroyed a construction fence and sign. Authorities say the total damages are in excess of $10,000.
A deputy from the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office talked with workers from the construction zone who were almost hit by the vehicle but were able to describe Clawson’s appearance, according to court documents.
Clawson was taken into custody and later released after posting bond. His next court date is scheduled for September 24th.
