An Ottumwa City Council member received an award earlier this month that recognizes exemplary work for those in city government.
Holly Berg was the recipient of the Rhonda Wood Smith Award by the Iowa League of Cities during it Awards Banquet in Coralville. Berg explained more about the award.
“It’s given to someone each year who is in their first term and under the age of 40,” Berg Said. “apparently, Council member [Matt] dalbey submitted me for the award.”
Berg was elected to the city council in 2018 and her term ends in January. She has decided not to run for reelection. Berg says she “audibly gulped” when she realized she was receiving the award.
“I was very surprised and humbled. It was exciting. It felt nice but yeah, happy to do the work that I do,” berg said.
Part of Berg’s introduction to her receiving the award read:
“Holly Berg, this year’s Rhonda Wood Smith
award recipient, has been an active advocate for her community and personifies the Characteristics of a true leader. She has been an active member of various boards in her Community.”
