An Ottumwa man is behind bars after allegedly putting a fake grenade on a resident’s porch Monday morning.
According to court documents, 50-year-old Kurt Brumbaugh intentionally placed a “pineapple” grenade in the enclosed porch area of a residence on Waverly Avenue while the victim was inside the house.
Authorities say the victim, listed in the arrest report as 75-year-old Melvin Brumbaugh, became alarmed and scared for his life when he discovered the grenade.
The grenade was later determined to be inert but police say the victim believed the explosive device was real and functional.
Kurt Brumbaugh was arrested and charged with first-degree arson, a Class B felony. He was transported to the Wapello County Jail where his bail has been set at $25,000.
