The Ottumwa High girls and boys track teams will run at home for the only time this season on Tuesday, when the Bulldogs host the Don Newell Classic.
OHS has hosted the classic since 1949, back when it was known as the Bulldog Relays, and 2014 marks the 66th consecutive running. The Don Newell Classic has the distinction of being the 12th-longest-running annual high school track and field meet in the state of Iowa.
This season, the OHS girls track team will compete in the classic against Ankeny Centennial, Burlington, Iowa City West, Oskaloosa and Cedar Rapids Prairie. Competition for the Bulldog boys track team includes Burlington, Des Moines East, Des Moines Lincoln, Des Moines North, Oskaloosa and Albia.
The 2014 Don Newell Classic begins at 5pm on Tuesday at Schafer Stadium.
