OHS Softball Supporters Fight for Huston Field

A group of Ottumwa High Softball supporters is circulating a petition this week, asking the board of education to save Huston Field.  The longtime home field of OHS Softball, named after head coach Frank Huston, is located adjacent to the now-closed Wildwood Elementary School.  The school district is planning to sell the school, and many Bulldog softball fans fear the land where the softball diamond sits will also be included in the sale.

Along with the petition, supporters are trying to rally support on social media.  Many people associated with the program, including several former and current players, have taken to Twitter to post their support, using the hashtag #SaveHustonField.

Those hoping to keep Huston Field as the home field for Ottumwa softball plan to lobby the board of education at its next meeting Monday night.
