A national retail store chain that boasts over 1,200 locations will be opening a new store in Ottumwa in the coming months.
Harbor Freight Tools, a tool and equipment retailer based in California, announced Wednesday morning that 1110 North Quincy Avenue will be the location of the new store. An opening date was not provided in the press release from the company but says the new location will open sometime this winter.
Sharon Stroh, VP of Industrial Development and Organizational Communication at Greater Ottumwa Partners in Progress offered her thoughts as to what this new business means for Ottumwa and southeast Iowa.
“i would consider harbor freight kind of a destination retail option kind of like Hobby lobby,” Stroh says. “so i imagine you will see folks that are coming from all over the district. That will include our surrounding counties.”
Stroh says seven different counties touch Wapello County and she believes residents from the other counties will make their way to Ottumwa in response to the new Harbor Freight store opening.
Harbor Freight estimates between 25-30 new jobs will be brought to the community, including Sales and Logistic Supervisors,
Senior Associates, Sales Associates, and seasonal opportunities.
