A single-vehicle accident Wednesday morning in Ottumwa knocked over a retention pole on North Court Street.
Just after 11 o’clock in the morning, a pickup truck traveling northbound on North Court a lost control near the intersection at Grandview Avenue. The truck veered left across the southbound lane, jumped the curb, crashed completely through the utility pole and came to rest in some bushes. The pole snapped in two near its base, with the broken portion laying in the road, still attached by a wire to the utility poles across the street.
Ottumwa police, fire and rescue were all called to the scene, but police say the driver escaped uninjured. Authorities also say citations against the driver are pending.
