Maynard DeWayne “Buck” Penrod, 79, of Ottumwa, died at 6:48 a.m. December 21, 2021 at home.

He was born July 25, 1942 in Wapello County to Orlo Arthur and Emily Rebecca Brando Penrod. Maynard married Sharon Kay Goff on February 6, 1972.

A graduate of Ottumwa High School, he served with the US Army for 6 years and for 20 years with the US Army Reserves, retiring as Staff Sergeant E-6. Maynard worked for Clow Valve for 33 years, retiring in 2007.

He was a member of O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.

Surviving is his wife, Sharon; his children, Randy Owen Penrod of Burlington, Kelly Jo Penrod-Cantu of San Antonio, TX and Kevin Wayne Penrod of Des Moines; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; siblings, Marvis Ray of Hamden, OH, Leonard Robert Penrod of Oxford, AL, Edwin Allen Penrod of Belle Plaine and Pamela Garr of Ottumwa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Jeremy Penrod; a granddaughter, Kaylee Penrod; siblings, Iva Petermier, Richard Blaine Penrod, William Penrod, Juanita Collins, Clifford Eugene Penrod, Ramona Terrell and Owanda Blakley; his dog, Silver; and his cat, Buttons.

Visitation will be open at 10 a.m. Thursday December 23rd at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday December 24th at Reece Funeral Home with Chaplain Doug McAntire officiating. Military honors will be conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars. For those unable to attend, the service may be viewed live on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page.

Cremation will follow the services. Inurnment will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project.
