They then moved to a farm southeast of New Sharon. While living there, five children were born, Gary, Larry, Loretta, Steve and Carolyn. In 1949, they moved to Oskaloosa.

Margaret and Floyd became members of the First Presbyterian Church of Oskaloosa in 1950. She has the distinguished honor of becoming the first woman to serve on City Council and on the Park Board. In 1987 she received the Oskaloosa Chamber of Commerce “Citizen of the Year” Award. Margaret also spent many hours volunteering for Hospice in the office. If anyone were to ask, Margaret would tell them that some of her greatest joys were playing golf, going dancing with Floyd, enjoying time with other people and seeing her children and grandchildren grow up and become the type of persons of which any parent would be proud.
