The deadline for Wapello County businesses to apply for a grant to help ease financial concerns brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic is approaching.
Interested businesses have until 5:00 PM on Friday, May 15th to fill an application for a Small Business Emergency Grant courtesy of the Ottumwa Regional Legacy Foundation.
Steve Dust, CEO of the Ottumwa Regional Legacy Foundation, says businesses must be based in Wapello County and have 1-25 employees. Dust says the selected businesses will be awarded the grants by the end of the month.
When the coronavirus pandemic started, Dust says he and his team got together and asked each other how the virus negatively affected businesses that were forced to close.
“we said this [the pandemic] is going to dominate our business for the rest of the year,” dust says. “Let’s use our currently allocated funds and create a special fund for our small businesses to survive.”
Dust anticipates helping 20-30 businesses with the grant and says that community members can donate to the fund. Each business can receive up to $5,000 from the grant program.
Applicants will be evaluated by a review team that includes local government representatives and small business professionals.
