John Farrell


John Nicholas Farrell, 84, of Ottumwa, died at 5:11 p.m. November 30, 2021 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

He was born February 14, 1937 in Ottumwa to George and Alberta Parlee Farrell. He married A. Ninian Johnson on October 27, 1963.

A resident of Ottumwa all of his life, he served in the Iowa Army National Guard from 1955 to 1963. He worked for 9 years at John Morrell and Co. and for 26 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring in 1998.

He attended First Presbyterian Church and volunteered at their church pantry. John enjoyed “can hunting,” feeding wildlife, keeping busy in his shop and helping out at Rosenman’s, Inc.

John never met a stranger and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.

Surviving is his wife, Ninian; a son, Marty Farrell (Marlene Ruby); two daughters, Dawnita (Norm) Wellings and Kimi Jo (Tom) Hull; seven grandchildren, Chase (Katey), Kelsey (Kevin) Anderson, Colton (Dom), Anna, Trey, Quintin and Jarrett; a great-grandson, Maddoxx; a brother, David Farrell; a sister, Alberta (Skip) Stevens; a sister-in-law, Norma Farrell, all of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert Farrell, Bill Farrell, Harry Farrell and Charles Farrell; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Marge Hepker, and DeWitt Johnson.

Visitation will be open after 11 a.m. Sunday, December 5th at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, December 6th at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Hornback officiating. For those unable to attend, you may watch live on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. Cremation will follow the service.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church.
