Jerry Max Strunk, 82, of Ottumwa, died at 9:22 a.m. September 24, 2021 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
He was born September 27, 1938 in Ottumwa to Winford Max and Theresa Hazel Denny Strunk. He married Jo Ellen Brinegar June 26, 1960 and she preceded him in death April 15, 2019.
A graduate of Ottumwa High School, Jerry served in the Iowa Army National Guard. He learned to fly at the age of 16 and attended the Spartan Aeronautical School, earning his A&P License. He owned and operated Midwest Aviation in Ottumwa and later ran the Oskaloosa Municipal Airport, retiring in 2019.
Surviving are his children, Jan (Dan) Brown of Cedar Falls, Jill Strunk of Iowa City, Jeff (Sherry) Strunk of Ottumwa and Jody Strunk of Des Moines; 4 grandchildren, Claire (Patrick) Vorthmann of Omaha, NE, Sydney Strunk of Iowa City, Jalen Strunk of Dubuque and Matthew Andreesen of Ames.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant granddaughter, Grace; and a brother, Dick Strunk.
His body has been cremated.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Friday, October 1st at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. James H. Wakelin officiating. For those unable to attend, you may watch live on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. The family will be present to greet friends 1 hour prior to the service on Friday.
Private inurnment will be in Ottumwa Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the IHCC Foundation for an Aviation Scholarship or to the family to be designated at a later date.
