JBS Ottumwa has announced what the funding from the Hometown Strong initiative will ultimately be used for.
According to a press release from JBS, JBS USA previously announced a $5.2 million investment in the Ottumwa community. Since then, the company has worked closely with local leaders to determine the best use of the funds in the community.
Specifically, JBS USA has contributed $1 million toward the construction of a state-of-the-art indoor sporting complex, which will provide year-round recreational opportunities for the community. The new facility has the potential added benefit of helping recruiting efforts aimed at businesses, new residents and more.
In addition to the SportsPlex investment, the Hometown Strong initiative funding will be used for:
- A contribution of $1,200,000, to develop a three-building apartment complex to support affordable housing in the area.
- A revolving Housing Fund of $440,000 to provide new homes to JBS team members in the community. purchase costs from the sale of each home will be returned to the fund to allow for continuous development.
- The Ottumwa School District received $250,000 for new band uniforms and upgrades to the gyms and media centers at OHS and Evans.
- The City of Ottumwa received $10,000 to replace the baseball field press box that was burned in 2021.
