ISU Women’s Hoops Lands Metro Commitment

According to a report in the Des Moines Register, the Iowa State women’s basketball team has gained the services of a player who should be familiar to fans of Ottumwa High hoops.  Des Moines Roosevelt senior-to-be Meredith Burkhall, who has played against Ottumwa six times in the past three seasons, has committed to Bill Fennelly’s Cyclone program.

The 6-foot-3 forward averaged 18.6 points and 9.7 rebounds as a junior, earning second team all-state honors.  The Bulldog girls basketball team split its two CIML Metro Conference meetings with Burkhall’s Roosevelt squad last season.  Fennelly and some of his assistants were in attendance when Roosevelt hosted Ottumwa.

Burkhall will provide a much-needed boost to Iowa State as far as team height is concerned.  The Cyclones only had one starter taller than 5-foot-11 last year.
