For the Indian Hills golf team, winning championships is about peaking at the right time. As the program seeks its fourth national championship, it’s the clear the Warriors are doing just that.
IHCC claimed the 2014 District III championship on Tuesday, easily holding off Hutchinson and Iowa Western to earn the Warriors a berth at next month’s national tournament. Indian Hills entered the final round with a seven-shot lead over Hutchinson, and pulled away to win the tournament by 17 strokes.
Even with the comfortable lead, there was still an extra hole for IHCC to play, because Warrior golfers Colin Pearson and George Trujillo finished in a tie for individual medalist honors. Pearson birdied the first playoff hole to claim the individual title.
Next up for Indian Hills is the NJCAA National Tournament, which begins on May 13th. IHCC will be the closest thing to a home team at the tournament, which takes place just over an hour down the road from Ottumwa at the Spirit Hollow golf course in Burlington.
