Monday’s Associated Press Men’s Basketball Top 25 poll contained a piece of local history. For the first time ever, three Division I teams from the state of Iowa are ranked at the same time.
Leading the charge is Iowa State, which moved up two spots to #9 after beating then-#9 Kansas 86-81 Saturday night. The Cyclones have been ranked every week this season, and the ninth spot matches their high-water mark from late December. Iowa State plays host to unranked (but Big 12-leading) Kansas State on Tuesday, then plays at Texas Tech on Saturday.
Northern Iowa moved up three spots this week to #20, after earning wins over Bradley and Missouri State. The Panthers face Indiana State at home on Wednesday, and travel to Illinois State on Sunday.
The Iowa men completed the historic trio by entering the poll for the first time this season, claiming the #25 ranking. The Hawkeyes climbed after sneaking by Minnesota on the road, then returning home to beat Ohio State for the second time this season. Iowa’s ranking will be tested immediately this week, as they hit the road Tuesday to play #6 Wisconsin. The Hawkeyes also play on the road Saturday, traveling to Purdue.
