Forum To Be Held For Ottumwa City Council and Mayoral Candidates


The public will soon have an opportunity to speak directly to the candidates for Ottumwa’s mayor and city council seats.

The League of Women Voters of Ottumwa will be sponsoring a forum for candidates for City Council and Mayor. The primary election will be held on Tuesday October 5, 2021. Polls will be open from 7 AM to 8 PM.

The candidate forum will be held on Thursday September 30, 2021 in the Council Chambers in City Hall at 105 E. Third Street in Ottumwa. The forum will begin at 6:00 PM.  The public may enter City Hall through the entrance on 4th St. on the second floor or E. Third Street which is accessible on the first floor.  The public is encouraged to attend.  GOTV, Channel 6 will broadcast the forum in its entirety.  The forum will also be available to stream on YouTube on the City’s website at All candidates have been invited to this forum and have been e-mailed the format and rules. The League will provide a moderator, a timekeeper and a question reader. Those attending the forum will be asked to submit questions in writing, which must be signed. The League reserves the right to edit questions for clarity, relevance, and redundancy.  Each candidate will have equal time to respond to all questions.

The League will review the format and rules with all of the candidates at 5:45 PM. It is the mission of the League, nationally, statewide and locally to “promote political responsibility through informed and active participation of citizens in Government”.  Officially, the League does not support or oppose any political party or candidate for office.  However, the League does take positions on issues that members have studied and agreed upon. Membership in the League of Women Voters is open to any citizen 16 years of age or older.
