First Section of 2-Way Traffic Expected to Start Monday

(Ottumwa) – Motorists are advised that beginning the week of May 19th, Main and Second Streets (from Jefferson to Kitterman) will be converted to two-way traffic. The conversion is expected to begin on Monday morning on Main Street, conditions permitting. Each street will open to two-way traffic in steps as new pavement markings are applied. This traffic change will be permanent.

The change from one-way to two-way traffic will mark a major change in downtown traffic flow.

As the changes are implemented, drivers should be alert for new signage and traffic markings. Anticipate a slower rate of traffic.

The week after Memorial Day, Main Street will be completely closed from McPherson to McLean for paving. Two way traffic will begin on Second Street from McPherson to McLean. Eastbound traffic on Second will have to stop at McLean and go a block north or south to continue. This traffic change will be temporary, due to the construction on Main.

Please note that the one-way traffic pattern from Kitterman to McLean will remain unchanged.
