PACKWOOD, IA – The Pekin Panthers (0-1, 0-1 SEISC) remained out on the road Tuesday night visiting the Wapello Indians (0-1, 0-1 SEISC) in a meeting of conference opponents.
Having fallen 4-2 in a matchup Monday night at New London, the Panthers made sure to bring their bats with them in this second road game. In the top of the first, the Panthers drove in three runs to jump out to the early lead. An error in the bottom half of the inning though allowed two Wapello runners to score and cut the deficit back to just one run, 3-2.
A two-run single in the bottom of the second inning for Wapello gave the home team the lead once again, 4-3, but Pekin quickly answered. Blake Juhl and Brady Latcham came into score in the top half of the next inning off an Indian error, thrusting the Panthers back in front 5-4. From there, the visitors never looked back.
Pekin added another run in the fourth on an RBI-double from Juhl, then exploded for 7 in the fifth and an additional 4 in the sixth on just two total hits. Several walks and a handful of errors doomed Wapello as the Panthers jumped in front, 17-4.
Needing at least four runs in the bottom of the sixth to keep the game going, the Indians managed to bring in two off a RBI-single from Kronfield, making the score 17-6, but that was all Wapello was able to muster.
Pekin returns to the diamond Thursday night for their home opener versus Winfield-Mt. Union.
