The issue involving the Elbow Room in the 300 Block of East Main Street, and recent assaults and stabbings at the after hours drinking establishment has been resolved, at least temporarily, with the closure of the business.
City Council Member John (J.R.) Richards said today that, for a variety of reasons noted by the City, the business has voluntarily shut its doors for the time being.
The Ottumwa City Council was to have discussed recent events in Ottumwa’s Northside Downtown in the area outside the Elbow Room, one assault that ended with the death of a victim, and two recent stabbings.
However, at Tuesday’s City Council Meeting, the matter was referred to the City Administrative Staff for action, with Staff reporting a resolution at the December 16th City Council Meeting.
Council Member Richards said that the closure may only be temporary, while a more permanent solution is sought.
