Duck Races Date, Non-Profit Partner Announced

Greater Ottumwa Partners In Progress (GOPIP) recently announced its annual Duck Races will be held on September 24th.

Each year, GOPIP partners with a local non-profit. Shea Greiner, Vice President of Engagement and Organizational Advancement, announced this year’s partner organization.

“it is heartland humane society,” Greiner announced. “i went out there yesterday and spoke with the staff. they are very exctied. so one dollar from every duck sold will go to heartland humane society this year.”

Heartland Humane Society is a no-kill pet shelter located at 314 Fox Saux Road in Ottumwa. The mission of Heartland Humane Society is to provide temporary shelter and care to homeless/lost animals, to educate the public on proper care of animals, and to promote neuter and spay programs.

The third edition of the Duck Races will see 5,000 ducks launched down N. Court Street with cash prizes awarded to the owners of the ducks who finish first, second, and last (dead duck).
