Fairfield-area businesses are being warned of counterfeit bills that are circulating in Jefferson County.
Chief David Thomas of the Fairfield Police Department says officers investigated individuals passing counterfeit $100 bills early Friday morning. Thomas says the subjects’ identities cannot be disclosed since it’s an active investigation.
According to Thomas, the bills are “quite glossy and appear to be new.” On the back, the fake bill says “Motion Picture Purposes.”
Thomas is advising establishments to notify their staffs to be aware of the counterfeit bills. If any are found, Thomas encourages businesses to contact the Fairfield Police Department or Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the fake money will be seized. After discussing the matter with an officer or deputy, a decision can be made whether or not to press charges.
