Plans for a major makeover of the Jefferson street Parking Lot is a step closer to reality following action taken by the Ottumwa City Council Tuesday evening.
The council approved a resolution awarding a contract to JDM Contracting Company after they submitted the best bid price of 307-thousand, 777 dollars.
The project consists of improvements to the parking lot including sewer repairs. The Ottumwa Legacy Foundation has agreed to fully fund the project up to 475-thousand dollars plus the improvement made to the alley adjacent to the parking lot.
Also during Tuesday’s meeting, the council approved a contract between the City of Ottumwa and Wapello County for new construction inspection services.
Wapello County is hiring a new building inspector and in the interim requests that the City provide some inspection services on an as need basis.
Under the agreement, city building inspectors will provide electrical, HVAC and plumbing inspections on the unincorporated areas of Wapello County upon request.
