City hires new City engineer


The city of Ottumwa officially has a new engineer following action taken by the City Council Tuesday evening.

Under the consent agenda, the council approved the appointment of Dwight Dohlman  as City Engineer.

He had been City Engineer for Spirit Lake, Iowa since 2007 and prior to that was the engineering manager in charge of vertical infrastructure inCedar Rapids.

He was hired on September 8th by the city for the position of Assistant Engineer with a salary of more than 73-thousand dollars.  However with the voluntary resignation of City Engineer Dan Sturm, Dohlman was hired as the new City engineer.  His salary will now be more than 78-thousand dollars.

Also during Tuesday’s meeting, the council approved a resolution regarding contributions of more than 82-thousand dollars of In-Kind Contributions and 40-thousand dollars in donations received from the city to the Wapello County Trails Council for a pedestrian tunnel under highway 34.

The Wapello County Trails council is pursing the construction of a pedestrian tunnel that would connect Wayside Park with Ottumwa Park.

Numerous entities have contributed funds for the project including 260-thousand dollars from the Legacy Foundation and 175-thousand dollars from the Wapello County Trails Council.
