The Ottumwa City Council, Tuesday evening, received a report from OTA director Dave Silverio.
He told the council ridership was down since his last report. The lower numbers were attributed to the weather and the loss of student riders from the EZ ridership program.
Silverio told the council that scenario was not a bad thing and has reached out to minority groups. He says route maps are now printed in Spanish. He also noted the OTA continues to be under budget. He says the OTA will continue to operate as lean as possible.
On another plus, the OTA director says his agency has developed an advertising program that has generated about six thousand dollars at no cost to the transit system. And Silverio says the OTA has purchased an 8 passenger bus and told the council he looks to purchase more of the smaller buses in the future, saying this is the way to go.
