Area residents will have a better idea of events  occurring in the Ottumwa area as the result of action taken by the City Council last night.

Two bids were received for the new electronic display sign for Central Park.  A total of two bids were received…………one from Champion sign of Oskaloosa and Cobler Sign and graphics of Ottumwa.

Champion Sign submitted the best bid price of 14-thousand, 486 dollars.  The Cobler sign bid was 14-thousand, 850 dollars.  Because of the 3-percent local preference ordinance, the bid was awarded to Cobler Sign and Graphics.

The project will be funded by a 15-thousand dollar grant from the Fahrney Foundation.

Also during last night’s meeting,  being no objectors at a public hearing, the council approved the plans, specifications, form of contract and estimated cost for the Jefferson Street Parking Lot improvements.  The Legacy Foundation has agreed to fully fund this project up to 475-thousand dollars.  Staff will coordinate with Legacy on the selection of lighting fixtures and landscaping items.
