Altheide signs letter of intent to Indian Hills Cheer

OTTUMWA, IA – Ottumwa senior Ariel Altheide is going to be a Warrior. The senior Bulldog signed her letter of intent to join the Indian Hills Community College Cheer program Thursday morning in the Ottumwa High Activities office. Having cheered since the seventh grade, Altheide says she’s excited to be able to continue cheering in college.

“(I’m most looking forward to) stunting: when a couple of girls hold another girl in the air,” Altheide explained. “At college level it’s a lot more elite, you could say, than high school level.”

A previously established relationship between Altheide and Indian Hills cheer coach, Cyndi Mellin, made it an easy decision for both parties. While in attendance for the signing, Mellin shared that, outside of Altheide’s cheering abilities, the type of person she is makes her a good fit at Indian Hills.

“She’s a good kid…definitely a kid I wanted on my team,” Mellin said.

Aside from cheering at several Indian Hills athletic events, Altheide also hopes to earn a spot on the Competitive Cheer squad as well, a select group of cheerleaders selected by Mellin who travel and compete/represent IHCC at multiple events.

With hopes of one day potentially starting her own Cosmetology store, Altheide plans to study Business while enrolled at Indian Hills.
