If car counts are any indication then the 2014 Holiday Nights ‘N Lights was a major success. Due to th e hard work of many volunteers we experienced a 25% increase in traffic; that’s close to 1,000 more cars than last year. We did have several more days this year versus last year but day to day counts showed we would have been over last year without the extended days. Good weather, increased media coverage, carriage rides and seven new displays were all contributors to the increase.
In addition, placement of the displays also helped since many of the displays could be clearly seen from the highway. Passer byers got a good peek while driving by at night which made for some excited kids and adults. Thousands of dollars will be donated to nonprofits thanks to the many volunteers that helped us set up the displays and worked during the event.
The Ottumwa Area Chamber of Commerce wants to thank everyone who volunteered, attended or covered the event – without the community support we would not be able to bring this traditional event to Ottumwa. Work has already begun on next year’s show and it promises to be another exciting event.
