UPDATED: Weather Watch: Rain Cancels Tournaments, Broadcasts

By Jason Van Arkel, June 02, 2018

The thunderstorms that rolled through southeast Iowa Saturday morning have already taken their toll on a number of area tournaments.

The Ottumwa softball team is still scheduled to face both Newton and Mount Vernon today in the Oskaloosa softball classic, but the start of the tournament was pushed back. Ottumwa will now play Newton at 2:30, and then face Mount Vernon at 6:00. Both games will air on 1240 AM / 102.7 FM KBIZ.

The Cardinal baseball tournament would have matched the Comets against Davis County and Van Buren in a round-robin format, but weather has forced Cardinal officials to cancel the event. Van Buren’s next game will be Monday night at Holy Trinity on 92.7 KTWA, while Davis County will play Monday night at Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont on 104.3 KRKN.

Speaking of EBF, the storms have also forced the Rockets to cancel their four-team tournament. Pekin would have played in that event, but now the Panthers won’t play until Monday night at Lone Tree on 101.5 Kiss FM.
