Prep Volleyball: Regional Pairings Announced

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union announced the 2017 regional tournament pairings on Tuesday. Below are the first-round matchups for all of our area schools, as well as information about potential second-round opponents.

CLASS 5A

Ottumwa sits in Region 5, and will host Des Moines North in an opening-round match on October 18. If the Bulldogs win, they play at #14 Waukee in the regional semifinals on October 24.

CLASS 4A

Oskaloosa sits in Region 4, and plays at Knoxville on October 18. If the Indians win, they play at #2 Pella in the regional semis on October 24.

#15 Fairfield sits in Region 7, and will host Keokuk in an opening-round match on October 18. If the Trojans win, they play at #14 Fort Madison in the regional semis on October 24.

CLASS 3A

Albia, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, Davis County and Centerville all sit in Region 8. Albia plays at EBF, and Centerville plays at Davis County on October 18. The two winners meet in Eddyville for the regional semis on October 24. One of these four schools is guaranteed to play in the regional final on October 30.

CLASS 2A

Sigourney, Cardinal and Pekin all sit in Region 5. Cardinal plays at Sigourney on October 17. The winner advances to play at Pekin on October 23. The winner of that match advances to the regional semifinals in Pella on October 26.

Van Buren sits in Region 8, and like Pekin, has a 1st-round bye. The Warriors host either Danville or Columbus on October 23. If Van Buren wins, they’ll likely play at #11 Iowa City Regina in the regional semis on August 26.

CLASS 1A

Moravia sits in Region 8. The Mohawks play host to Moulton-Udell in an opening-round matchup on October 17. If they win, they play at #5 New London on October 23.

Twin Cedars also sits in Region 8. The Sabers face Seymour on a neutral court in Centerville, for an opening-round match on October 17. If they win, they face either #7 Holy Trinity or Notre Dame on October 23.
