Class 3A Automatic State Qualifiers: Mount Pleasant Dominates, Fairfield Competes

By Jason Van Arkel, May 12, 2017

The Mount Pleasant track teams narrowly missed out on sweeping their Class 3A state qualifying meet on their home track Thursday, winning the boys championship but coming in second in the girls competition. The Panthers racked up a combined 20 automatic qualifiers for the state meet (that includes four events where Mount Pleasant qualified two athletes each), while Fairfield scored three automatic qualifiers. In Class 3A, only the top two finishers of each event qualify automatically for state. The remaining spots in the state field are filled by the next best 8 performances statewide, so both of those schools may send more athletes to state. The full list of state qualifiers will be announced sometime on Friday. Below are the automatic qualifiers.
