Class 1A Automatic State Track Qualifiers: Pekin Dominates

By Jason Van Arkel, May 12, 2017

As expected, the Pekin girls and boys track teams dominated their Class 1A state qualifying meet at WACO Thursday night, winning both team titles and qualifying for state automatically in 16 events. The Sigourney track teams combined to qualify for eight events, while the Cardinal boys had one automatic qualifier. In Class 1A, only the winner of each event qualifies automatically for state. The remaining spots in the state field are filled by the next best 14 performances statewide, so Pekin, Sigourney and Cardinal may all send more athletes to state, and Moravia may still earn a spot or two as well. The full list of state qualifiers will be announced sometime on Friday. Below are the automatic qualifiers.
