IHCC Golf Wins Again, Solidifies #1 Ranking

By Jason Van Arkel, April 11, 2017

The top-ranked Indian Hills golf team got an early look this week at the Buffalo Dunes Golf Course in Dodge City, Kansas, the site of next month’s NJCAA Division I National Championship. If the Warriors play there next month like they did Monday and Tuesday, they can start planning a championship celebration.

IHCC lapped the field in the Southwest Kansas Shootout, battling windy conditions in Tuesday’s final round win the three-round tournament by a whopping 18 strokes. Indian Hills finished at 12 over par, while second-place Dodge City, the nation’s #3 team, came in second at +30. Two other top-ten teams competed in the tournament, with #8 Iowa Western finishing fourth (+48) and #10 Hutchinson coming in tenth (+66).

Scoring proved to be difficult for all 13 teams in the field on Tuesday. Indian Hills came in at 298, which was ten over par for the round, but the Warriors were the only team to shoot under 300 as a squad. No individual golfer could manager even par, much less break it, as the best score of the day was a 1-over-par 73.

The Warriors’ Jackson Bugdalski came up just short of becoming the individual medalist, shooting a 77 for the day and finishing in second place overall at even par. Teammate Ricky Sanders came in at one over par to earn third place, and IHCC’s Jakob Bares was fourth at five over par. Grant Olinger of Colorado Mesa was the only golfer to finish in the red numbers, ending the tournament at three under par despite shooting a final-round 75.

Indian Hills has now won all three of its spring tournaments to date. It’s a quick turnaround for the Warriors this week; they’ll compete in the 45th annual Beu/Mussatto Invitational in Macomb, Illinois on Friday and Saturday.
