OHS 4×800 Squad Wins ISU Classic with Hall of Fame Time

By Jason Van Arkel, March 14, 2017

Ottumwa High’s Bob Warren Hall of Fame honors the best track and field athletes in Bulldog history. On Monday, four freshman added their names to the prestigious OHS list.

The Bulldogs’ girls 4×800-meter relay team earned a first-place finish at the Iowa State Girls High School Classic on Monday, posting a time of 9:55.49 at Ottumwa’s second indoor event of the spring. Carollin Mellin, Abby Bowers, Alli Bookin-Nosbisch and Grace Bookin-Nosbisch made up one of only two teams that cracked the ten-minute mark in the race, and beat out 43 other relay teams to earn the top spot on the podium.

The relay team’s time was also good enough to earn a Hall of Fame spot, and it’s the second Hall-worthy performance for OHS this season. Last week at the Dickinson Relays in the UNI-Dome, senior Dalton Bowers posted the second-fastest time in school history in the boys 3,200-meter race to earn his Hall of Fame spot.

The Ottumwa girls had two other top-five performances at Monday’s meet. The 4×400-meter relay team finished in fourth place, and Kylie Latham earned a fourth-place finish in the 3,000-meter race. Davis County had one top-five showing, as Jaylynn Sharp finished tied for second in the long jump.  Albia also had one top-five performance, with Jordan Winke placing second in the 800-meter race.
